An eventful company history
1919
The roots of Ivers-Lee
The roots lie in the USA. Ivers-Lee was founded in Newark, N.J., in 1919 and developed the SANITAPE packing product, a wrap made of wax-coated paper. Ivers-Lee USA soon recognised the significance of this technology and the patented SEALTITE packing products (strip packaging for tablets and other solid products) were manufactured on its first production facilities, along with pouches for powders, granulates and (later) even liquids.
1947
Founding in Burgdorf
Peter Schüpbach founded Ivers-Lee AG Burgdorf in 1947 when it became clear that the potential for these packages existed in Europe too. In the challenging economic era following World War II, it took great courage and faith to start up a company in the packaging sector, offering American technologies that were still unknown in Europe. Peter Schüpbach had the determination and staying power, as well as the ability, the right staff and the partners to pull through. After his death, the Schüpbach family took on most of the shares. Peter’s son, Michael Schüpbach, still sits on the Administrative Board.
1995
Founding of the German company
Fundamental changes in pharmaceutical legislation provided the basis for becoming more active in the field of clinical trials and sample logistics. To this end, a company was founded in Weil am Rhein in 1995. Relocated to Lörrach, it is still based there today under the name IL-CSM Clinical Supplies Management GmbH. The location in the border triangle offers the ideal regulatory conditions for activities in the EU and thus excellent strategic opportunities for the pharmaceutical business in Europe. The location also benefits from its immediate proximity to Basel and the pharmaceutical industry there, as well as its internationally recognised university.
2007
The expansion phase
In 2007, the Burgdorf plant (CH) underwent a further major investment phase with the aim of improving the flow of goods, adapting the infrastructure to modern GMP requirements and the «Clinical Supplies Management» business area and providing more production space for primary and secondary packaging. This expansion stage further cemented the strategic vision of the Ivers-Lee Group: to become the preferred and innovative packaging partner in the high-quality pharmaceutical products sector.
2009
Third generation and a major anniversary
On 1 July 2009, Dr Peter Schüpbach became the 3rd generation of the family to join the company. In 2017, a strategic reorientation was made. Since then, the focus has been on the pharmaceutical market. With this new focus, the Ivers-Lee Group has successfully positioned itself as an innovative partner. A number of promising new technologies have been implemented as a result. This success story is completed by successful FDA inspections in stick pack filling and combined products.
